Hello! I am Bley Hack, an artist living in the glorious Midwest. My work is done in watercolor, pen and ink, and digital media, and I am inspired by all things vintage and lovely to create charming surface patterns. My studio name, Esther Bley, comes from the great grandmother I am named after. She was a hardworking, practical farmer’s wife who tried to bring beauty into the everyday. I have always been inspired by the William Morris quote, “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”
As the mother of five young children, I depend upon the beautiful “little things” in my day to spark that feeling of aesthetic joy: a gorgeous fabric print to work into a quilt for a gift; a lowly tea towel to finish off the dishes; a charming notebook to record my ideas and inspiration. This is the kind of artwork I aspire to create for products.
